Cultural & Ethnic Bands & Musicians Wanted! « Result #1 on Oct 5, 2009, 6:13pm »
Mela 2010 looks set to be organised by a team headed up by Jayney Wright of the Adelphi Club's Off The Road fame.
I've offered my help, should you wish to do so too, give her a shout.
What with Mela being a celebration of multicultural arts and music, particularly of interest are any performers of cultural or ethnic-based music - from Reggae through Samba and Salsa to Mongolian throat-chorus - to compliment the existing local acts that Mela has drawn on in the past.

Yes, it's back! « Result #2 on Oct 5, 2009, 5:56pm »
Dougstock 2008 was an intimate back-garden affair which, while a great event, was somewhat impeded by clashing with Cottingham Day (yes, some musicians did indeed decide to spend the afternoon and evening watching the boys brigade or whatever rather than boozing it up in a lovely garden with free music) and also some afternoon rain. It didn't stop the stalwarts turning up to jam together in the garden though including local music heavyweights Abbie Lammas, Frank Johnson and Jim Danby letting fly with their strings among the fray.
Dougstock 2009 has gone public, now with a roof over its head courtesy of the King William IV (King Billy) in Cottingham, and hosted by Springboard Monthly. Acts scheduled for the 7pm kickoff on Friday 11th December include The Mark Robinson Experience, Frank Hohnson, David Elf, MyOneManBand [Phill Wilson], Abbie Lammas and KarlCulley . Sound from Dennis Caruana and compering from Ukulele Bill.

A Summer Of Gigs & Mishaps « Result #3 on Oct 5, 2009, 5:33pm »
It was a big, bad busy summer.
At the beginning of this period I was still struggling with my health but determined not to let it get too much in the way of my musical and creative endeavours; as it was, this policy turned out very bad for my already shaky health, but good for things to write songs about.
At the end of this period I'd been rescued from a canyon in Mexico, had my toenails removed and been put on a home blood pressure monitor.
However, despite the disappointment of poorliness dragging me home early from the Filey Free Live Music Festival, I did manage to gig in Chihuahua with bandaged feet, make my annual Guest Artist appearance at Tuesday @ The Tap and (just about) survive the wonder of 2009's Springboard Annual Music Festival where I managed to look after the website, make everyone's ID badges, compere for a day and a half and play four gigs.
It's no wonder my blood pressure's sky-high I guess, and I've been told to calm things down. On the downside this has meant that open-mic and other events where I'm not required to be there, I've cut down on.
I intend to be on at least reasonable form for Dougstock 2009, so I shall continue to take it easy until then ...

Never been to the Cottingham Music Festival before, but had a fantastic time. The weather was lovely and seeing new up and coming bands such as the Revoffs at Cross Keys was a real treat!
The live acoustic in the beer gardern at Hall Gate Tavern on Sunday was a great way to get over my hangover too gud work guys!!!
